We use so many products that are full of nasties, and most of the time we don’t even realise what is inside the bottle. I’m sick of using nasty chemicals on my body, and I am making changes to create a more natural and organic lifestyle. For me, the most daunting thought has been the idea of changing to a natural deodorant. I live in a hot climate and work in a small office, so changing to a natural brand terrifies me. What happens if I smell fantastic when I leave for work, but after my lunchtime stroll around the shops, in my synthetic work uniform, I smell somewhat less than fantastic? I don’t want to be that person at work.
In reality, we all should be concerned about the other dangers of deodorant. Antiperspirants use aluminum. The dangers of aluminum in deodorant include, blocking your sweat glands, acting as a long term source of exposure to aluminum, liver toxicity and is known to interfere with estrogen receptors in breast cancer cells. Estrogen plays a well-known role in breast cancer.
The biggest difference between natural and aluminum based deodorants is that natural deodorants do not block your sweat glands like aluminum based deodorants do. Instead of stopping you from sweating, natural deodorants use baking soda which prevents odors and kills bacteria, which in turn prevents a bacteria buildup in your armpit. Baking soda and clay's absorb moisture from your armpits to keep you dry.
With all of this in mind, I have been researching and trialing natural deodorants and have found an answer to all of these problems. Not only have I found an all-natural deodorant, I have found one that lives up to its promises and my expectations!
Please let me introduce you to Soapwalla! I am so excited to stock this brand. This is an all-natural deodorant, made by blending together superfine vegetable powders, clay's, and lavender, peppermint and tea tree oils. It is free from all harmful chemicals, petroleum, aluminum; and it is all organic, natural, vegan and cruelty free. Soapwalla deodorant is not an antiperspirant, so you will still sweat. But sweating is good for your body; it allows your body to rid itself of impurities. Not to mention, Soapwalla deodorants smell divine! Not overpowering, just a soft scent.
A little bit about Soapwalla……Soapwalla was born in founder Rachel Winard's NYC kitchen one evening, after months of unsuccessfully searching for products that wouldn't aggravate her sensitive skin issues caused by systemic lupus, a chronic autoimmune condition that almost always affects the skin.
Soapwalla products are pure, effective, and trustworthy. We believe that we are only as good as the ingredients we source. We partner with small farms to ensure we receive the best materials we can without compromising our integrity or dedication to the environment. Rachel visits suppliers to ensure they share Soapwalla’s value structure of respect, honour, authenticity, and transparency.
We are wildly passionate about what we do every day: creating goods that not only support skin health, also but our customers' - and planets - well-being. We choose quality over quantity and decide on a course of action based on our guiding principles: Will this make the best product? Does this minimize our environmental footprint? Will this support our local economy? Does it serve a purpose?
Soapwalla products are made by hand in small batches in our Brooklyn, NY studio. We don't use questionable additives such as sodium lauryl sulphate, parabens, phthalates, petrochemical by-products, or synthetic ingredients. We never, ever test on animals.
Soapwalla comes in a small pot, and is a thick paste, which you apply to your pits. I use the back of my fingernail and get a small pea sized amount to rub in.
If your product liquefies due to warmer temperatures you may need to pop in the freezer for 20 minutes to solidify. Soapwalla doesn’t use any nasties to stop the product from liquefying, which is what we love! Some warmer climates it might be best to keep the product in the fridge. A little warning, using Soapwalla after shaving your arm pits can cause a stinging sensation. Try and shave the night before if you can.
For those with sensitive skin, we also have a sensitive version available for purchase!
I have been using Soapwalla for the last three weeks absolutely love it. I have had no stinky issues, and am able to go to the gym without a need to reapply. I am so excited to bring this product to you and would love your feedback so please review this product!
